Business Plan Writing
Like Strategic Planning, most business owners look at writing a business plan as a necessary evil to meet the demands of others they want something from (ie: bankers and investors). The flaw in this thinking is that the process of creating a business plan is holistic in nature and gives the business owner a tremendous opportunity to look at every part of the business and get their ideas for how each is to be run on paper to be used as the guide for running and growing the business
The format that I’ve incorporated into my plan writing comes from the E-Myth organization that was developed by Michael Gerber in the early ’80’s to help small business owners systematize their business and turn it into a well oiled machine that served their lifestyle needs. Gerber developed the concept of the ‘7 Centers of Management Attention’ that covers the 7 key areas that any business must address and develop systems around to thrive and grow.
The result of using the ‘7 Centers’ perspective to write a business plan from is that you not only show investors and bankers that you know what it takes to make this venture a success, but you now have a framework to delegate responsibility from with an outline for that team member to follow and know what you expect of them. Defining expectations and giving your staff clear outlines of what they are responsible for is the fastest way to build an automated business and free you from answering every trivial question and putting out every little fire when they come up. It’s simply impossible to grow a company when these are not laid out and defined clearly.
So the result of having me develop your business plan is that not only do you end up with a very thorough and impressive plan, but you are forced to dig into every area of your business so your due diligence is met before you invest more time and money into the venture, because if there is a flaw in your assumptions, it will come out in this process. The great part is that we will either fix that flaw or it will be found early on so that you don’t waste any more time or money trying to start something that is doomed from the beginning.
If you realize that having a business plan put together that is this thorough and in depth is vital to your success in achieving investor buy-in and quick profitability, go to the Contact page and simply enter ‘Plan’ in the subject line and your contact info along with a brief synopsis of where you’re at with your business (startup, profitable, new product launch, etc) and I’ll follow up in the next day to schedule a time to meet and get a proposal together going over what it would take to pull this off.
